# Initial single-stock selection research — 22 October 2026

**Historical v1 screen.** The user subsequently changed the mandate to remain
invested in the most attractive researched stocks unless a correction or crash
is expected. The current [v2 policy](single_stock_strategy.md) supersedes this
report's all-cash conclusion. Its provisional cautious allocation target is
75% stocks / 25% cash. Prices, company observations and v1 scores below are
retained as the original audit, not current v2 entry instructions or ratings.

Status: research complete for the initial screen; no model has been funded and no
orders have been placed. The proposed starting capital remains 500,000 DKK.
This report applies [strategy v1](single_stock_strategy_v1.md) without relaxing its
rules to manufacture an initial portfolio.

## Decision

**No immediate purchase qualifies on the verified evidence.** The proposed
initial order list is empty; if funded on this evidence, the allocation would
be 500,000 DKK cash. This is a selection result, not a funded cash performance
series. The 500,000 DKK budget is a capacity, not a requirement to buy.

Prioritise Microsoft and Apple for a recovery trade **if a material, timely
positive catalyst can be established**. Maintain Intuitive Surgical and Northrop
Grumman as the leading fresh-results watchlist, with RTX next. IBM is an
event-timing watch, not a confirmed post-results breakout. TSMC and GE Aerospace
have interesting operating catalysts but fail the price screen. These are
research priorities, not an order sequence or a ranking of expected returns.

## Cutoff, universe and method

Price signals use the **21 October 2026 completed US session**, without today's
premarket or intraday prices. The research was initiated before the US regular
open on 22 October. Fundamentals and company releases were retrieved on
22 October; they may include information published after the signal session,
so event timestamps are checked explicitly.

The reproducible screen covers 38 named established companies, eight fixed US
sector proxies and ACWI: 47 price series, each with enough history for the
200-session average. This is a deliberately selected research universe, not an
exhaustive scan of every eligible stock or a point-in-time S&P 500 backtest.
Company and proxy price histories, calculation inputs and source URLs are
retained in material/single-stocks-2026-10-22-screen.json. The read-only runner is:

`python3 automation/research_single_stocks.py --as-of 2026-10-21 --output <new-audit-path>`

The fixed universe and proxy mappings are in that runner. It cannot trade or
edit the dashboard. AAPL/MSFT are Nasdaq ordinary shares, ISRG is Nasdaq, and
NOC/RTX/IBM/GE are NYSE. TSM is the NYSE sponsored ADR, not the Taiwan ordinary
share. Do not confuse US RTX Corporation with the Danish RTX A/S.

Adjusted-close indicators are rescaled to the latest raw close so they can be
compared with current share prices. ATR uses historical split-adjusted OHLC;
return comparisons use distribution-adjusted closes. Provider moving averages
may differ slightly because their adjustment conventions differ. All calculations
here use the same stored series consistently.

The automated fundamentals endpoint returned HTTP 403 for all 38 names.
Instead, eight shortlisted companies' public statistics pages, six annual cash
flow histories and issuer releases were checked through the web research tool.
The failed downloads remain in the audit; they are not presented as successful
full-universe fundamental coverage. Supplemental dated observations are in
material/single-stocks-2026-10-22-fundamentals.json.

## Market regime: mixed

- ACWI completed close: **$159.56**.
- 20-session average: **$159.79**.
- 50-session average: **$160.25**.
- 200-session average: **$152.07**.
- Official Cboe VIX close on 21 October: **16.68**.

ACWI is above its 200-session average but does not satisfy close >50-session
average >200-session average. VIX does not trigger the >=30 stress override.
The rule therefore gives a **mixed** state: maximum 50% stock exposure, at
least 50% DKK cash, recovery setups only and planned risk of **1,250 DKK per new
position**. The 50% cap is a ceiling, not a target. Today's evidence does not
justify filling it. Any increase in exposure must also satisfy the two-session
confirmation rule at the actual activation/review.

## Valuation and conservative scoring

| Stock | 21 Oct close USD | Trailing P/E | Provider forward P/E | Verified quality | Verified catalyst | Verified technical | Confirmed subtotal |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| MSFT | 532.95 | 29.69 | 26.97 | 15/20 | 0/25 | 20/30 | 40/100 |
| AAPL | 343.99 | 39.46 | 37.48 | 10/20 | 0/25 | 20/30 | 35/100 |
| ISRG | 428.12 | 51.75 | 35.58 | 15/20 | 25/25 | 20/30 | 65/100 |
| NOC | 539.31 | 17.01 | 18.33 | 15/20 | 25/25 | 20/30 | 65/100 |
| RTX | 191.60 | 31.15 | 24.72 | 15/20 | 25/25 | 10/30 | 55/100 |
| IBM | 251.46 | 21.45 | 19.31 | 10/20 | 25/25 | 20/30 | 60/100 |
| TSM | 431.89 | 28.89 | 20.15 | 10/20 | 25/25 | 0/30 | 40/100 |
| GE | 295.88 | 34.11 | 33.37 | 10/20 | 25/25 | 0/30 | 40/100 |

These are **confirmed evidence subtotals**, not completed comparative ratings,
probabilities or buy signals. The total includes five tradability points for
verified size, price, traded value and listing history. The other five points
are not awarded because a supported regular-session spread and account-specific
orderability have not been checked.

No valuation points are awarded yet. The pages label a forward P/E, but do not
establish in the retrieved evidence that it is exactly the NTM EPS definition
required by v1. A comparable five-year forward multiple history, fixed peer
medians and dated 30-day revisions are also missing. Showing the ratios for
context is different from awarding a verified NTM valuation score.

Quality awards five points each for verified positive annual FCF, ROIC exceeding
the provider's estimated WACC, and the debt/net-cash rule. The moat-plus-two-year
consistent margin component is unawarded pending that precise check. AAPL's
interest coverage is unavailable and its net-cash qualification was not
established here, so its debt test is unawarded. IBM's 3.73x total debt/EBITDA
fails the proposed balance-sheet threshold; separating financing debt would
require a documented rule change before using it.

The technical setup component requires the event timing as well as the price
pattern. MSFT/AAPL pass the price-only recovery screen, but without a qualifying
catalyst they do not receive the final ten setup points. IBM's pre-results
breakout likewise cannot receive post-results setup points.

## Candidate assessments and scenarios

### Microsoft — first recovery research priority, awaiting a qualifying catalyst

Its 21 October close of **$532.95** is above the 20/50/200-session averages
**$525.13 / $507.19 / $434.92**. The low touched the vicinity of the 20-session
average and the close recovered. Twenty-session performance exceeded ACWI by
**6.88 percentage points** and XLK by **9.95 points**.

The moat hypothesis is enterprise switching costs, the software ecosystem and
cloud distribution. Provider ROIC is 26.18% versus estimated WACC 10.03%; annual
FCF is positive, although the annual series declined from FY2024 to FY2026.
The 29.69x trailing and 26.97x labelled forward multiples are more moderate than
Apple's, but heavy investment and the definitions of reported/normalised earnings
need reconciliation. These are reasons to research, not a tomorrow-price forecast.

**Bear:** recovery fails and the price revisits the $510.70 illustrative
two-ATR level / $507.19 50-session region. **Base:** consolidation between the
20-session region and the preceding 20-session highest close, $543.45.
**Bull:** a verified operating catalyst supports a break through $543.45 and
the observed 60-session high, $551.15. However, the arithmetic 2R reference is
$577.44, beyond both levels. A plausible near-term route to 2R has not been
established. That hurdle cannot be satisfied by simply inventing a higher target.

Microsoft confirms earnings **28 October after close**. The release date itself
is not a positive catalyst. Under the two-session blackout rule, a pre-results
position would need to be closed at the last review before the 26 October
window. No eligible fresh material positive catalyst was established in this
review. **Decision: watch; no entry.**

### Apple — recovery candidate, with a demanding valuation and upside hurdle

Apple closed at **$343.99**, above its **$337.96 / $327.70 / $293.23**
20/50/200-session averages. The recovery price pattern passes, with positive
relative returns against ACWI and XLK. Volume was only **0.97x** its preceding
20-session average, so this is not a volume-confirmed breakout.

The moat hypothesis is the installed ecosystem, customer retention and
services distribution. Annual FCF is positive. At **39.46x trailing** and
**37.48x provider forward P/E**, it offers less apparent valuation cushion than
Microsoft, without proving that either is cheap. Recent home-product releases
and manufacturing announcements are verified, but their incremental material
earnings effect has not been established. Product publicity alone is insufficient.

**Bear:** loss of recovery support, with an illustrative two-ATR level at
**$332.09**. **Base:** trade around the $337.96 mean and the recent
**$348.15** high. **Bull:** a new material catalyst supports a sustained break
above that high. The arithmetic 2R reference, **$367.79**, is well beyond the
observed high; a defensible near-term path is not established.

The provider lists **2 November after close** for earnings; issuer confirmation
remains outstanding. **Decision: watch; no entry.**

### Intuitive Surgical — strong recurring-business catalyst, weak entry confirmation

The 20 October after-close release reported **22% revenue growth** and
**15% combined procedure growth**. Instruments/accessories provide recurring
exposure to the installed surgical system base, which is the moat hypothesis.
However, GAAP EPS fell and included an antitrust settlement charge; adjusted
growth must not be substituted silently for reported profitability.

The $428.12 close is above its 20/50-session averages, but the 50-session
average **$394.19** remains below the 200-session average **$437.66**.
The price therefore fails the required established-uptrend recovery setup.
It also closed below the preceding 20-session highest close of $438.00,
despite volume at 2.36x. High volume alone is not confirmation.

**Bear:** the post-results rejection extends towards the $416.02 20-session
region and **$402.05** illustrative invalidation. **Base:** consolidation below
the **$437.66–440.40** 200-session/recent-high region. **Bull:** continued
procedure demand supports a recovery through that region, followed by a
qualifying pattern; a $480.25 arithmetic 2R reference is not yet an established
price target. The roughly 52x trailing / 36x forward-labelled multiples leave
execution and hospital-spending risks. **Decision: leading earnings watch;
no entry under current rules.**

### Northrop Grumman — attractive research valuation, incomplete breakout

Issuer results on 20 October show **7% sales growth**, record backlog and
higher adjusted EPS guidance. The moat hypothesis is specialised defence
programmes, qualification barriers and long customer relationships. Reported
segment margin nevertheless fell modestly year on year, and programme charges
and government-budget timing remain material risks.

At **17.01x trailing** and **18.33x provider forward P/E**, it looks more
moderately priced than RTX. The higher forward ratio also warns against simply
assuming that current reported earnings will compound. A fixed peer comparison
still needs normalised pension/programme accounting and a common EPS horizon.

The close **$539.31** exceeded the previous 20-session highest close, but volume
was **1.11x**, below the required 1.5x. Its 50-session average remains below the
200-session average, ruling out the recovery setup. Mixed market conditions
would independently block breakout-only purchases.

**Bear:** loss of the $534.00 breakout area leads back towards the **$522.69**
50-session region and **$511.86** illustrative invalidation. **Base:** digest
the earnings move near the breakout area. **Bull:** renewed orders and confirmed
price demand support a move towards the observed 60-session high **$594.51**,
close to the arithmetic 2R reference $594.22. That is a price-anchored scenario,
but the entry/volume/regime conditions do not currently permit it.
**Decision: leading defence watch; no entry.**

[annual cash flow](https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/noc/financials/cash-flow-statement/).

### RTX — raised guidance, but trend confirmation is missing

RTX's 20 October release raised annual adjusted sales, EPS and free-cash-flow
guidance. Installed aircraft equipment, aftermarket service and qualified defence
programmes form the moat hypothesis. Part of quarterly adjusted EPS benefited
from tariff-cost recovery; not all the reported improvement is recurring.

The $191.60 close was below its **$198.23** 50-session average, so neither full
entry pattern passes. The labelled forward multiple **24.72x** is above NOC's,
but their business mixes and accounting differ.

**Bear:** continued rejection below the 50-session region risks the **$182.84**
illustrative invalidation. **Base:** consolidation around the $187.01–198.23
20/50-session region. **Bull:** continuing operating improvement and a verified
recovery through that region could reopen research on the **$209.13** 2R
reference; it is not an order or forecast. **Decision: secondary watch.**

### IBM — event timing defeats the apparent breakout

IBM's release was published at **16:08 EDT on 21 October**, after the price
signal session closed. Its improved software growth and higher free-cash-flow
outlook are new operating evidence, but the $251.46 close and 1.84x-volume
breakout happened **before that release**. There is no completed post-release
confirmation session in this screen.

The moat hypothesis is embedded enterprise workflows, mainframe relationships
and switching costs. Financing debt makes leverage interpretation more complex,
and the unmodified v1 total-debt test does not pass.

**Bear:** a post-release price reversal drops below the $241.92 prior close and
**$239.11** illustrative invalidation. **Base:** digest the result after the
first full reaction session. **Bull:** a new, genuinely post-release pattern
could support renewed research, but the arithmetic $276.17 2R reference has not
been justified. Premarket quotes are context, not executable regular-session
fills or confirmation. **Decision: wait for fresh completed data and the
permitted regime/setup; no entry.**

[annual cash flow](https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/ibm/financials/cash-flow-statement/).

### TSMC and GE Aerospace — operating interest, rejected price setups

**TSMC:** leading-edge manufacturing scale and execution are the moat hypothesis.
The issuer projects Q4 revenue of $52.3–54.3 billion, but its **$431.89** ADR
close is below the 20/50-session averages and its 20-session return trails ACWI.
Bear: revisit **$405.03** illustrative invalidation; base: rebuild around
$434.15–449.14 averages; bull: a confirmed recovery towards the observed $487.47
60-session high, near the arithmetic $485.61 2R reference. Geopolitics,
customer concentration, capital intensity and ADR units must be explicit.
**Decision: wait.**
[Issuer results](https://pr.tsmc.com/english/news/3346),
[statistics](https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/tsm/statistics/).

**GE Aerospace:** service relationships and the installed engine base are the moat
hypothesis. The issuer raised full-year guidance, but the **$295.88** close is
below the 20/50-session averages and weak relative to ACWI and XLI.
Bear: towards **$279.86** illustrative invalidation; base: stabilise below the
$310.16 20-session average; bull: rebuild towards the $326.11 50-session area
and the $327.93 arithmetic 2R reference. Supply-chain capacity, cash conversion
and the quality of adjusted earnings are counterweights.
**Decision: wait.**

## Illustrative sizing, not proposed orders

Mixed-regime risk is 0.25% of 500,000 DKK = **1,250 DKK** per position.
These examples use the 21 October close as a calculation reference, not a
claimed fill. They must be recomputed using the actual supported execution
quote, USD/DKK, whole shares and remaining cash/sector/theme limits.

| Stock | Reference close USD | ATR14 USD | Reference minus 2 ATR | Arithmetic +2R reference | Maximum indicative DKK size |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| MSFT | 532.95 | 11.12 | 510.70 | 577.44 | 29,946 |
| AAPL | 343.99 | 5.95 | 332.09 | 367.79 | 36,129 |
| ISRG | 428.12 | 13.03 | 402.05 | 480.25 | 20,529 |
| NOC | 539.31 | 13.73 | 511.86 | 594.22 | 24,554 |
| RTX | 191.60 | 4.38 | 182.84 | 209.13 | 27,331 |
| IBM | 251.46 | 6.18 | 239.11 | 276.17 | 25,445 |
| TSM | 431.89 | 13.43 | 405.03 | 485.61 | 20,100 |
| GE | 295.88 | 8.01 | 279.86 | 327.93 | 23,080 |

Every example exceeds the 10,000 DKK floor. **None is authorised by the selection
rules yet.** No FX rate, share count or executable order is invented. A numeric
2R level only describes the entry hurdle; it does not establish a plausible
upside target. Daily exit reviews also cannot cap overnight or intraday losses.

## Broker accessibility and remaining entry checks

Saxo's public lists include [Microsoft](https://www.home.saxo/markets/stocks/overview/m),
[Apple](https://www.home.saxo/markets/stocks/overview/a),
[Intuitive Surgical](https://www.home.saxo/markets/stocks/overview/i) and
[Northrop Grumman](https://www.home.saxo/markets/stocks/overview/n). A
[Nordnet NOC page](https://www.nordnet.dk/aktier/kurser/northrop-grumman-noc-xnas)
also exists, but its exchange/calendar metadata conflicts with the issuer and
current results. Use issuer/exchange identifiers to resolve the exact listing;
do not take the broker page's date as the earnings authority.

Public availability supports the mainstream-accessibility aim. It does not
establish orderability in a particular account, account type or jurisdiction.
Verify the exact ordinary-share/ADR listing and a supported regular-session
bid/ask spread <=0.15% before an entry. Do not substitute a CFD or a different
currency listing merely because it shares the company name.

Next decision conditions are concrete: obtain a fresh material catalyst for
MSFT/AAPL, or wait for a candidate's currently missing setup/regime confirmation;
finish comparable valuation and margin checks; then verify quote, FX, spread,
2R plausibility, blackout dates and whole-share sizing. Retain cash when any
hard gate remains unverified. Rules and thresholds have not been changed after
seeing this screen.

## Full 38-stock price screen

A/B here mean **price-only** conditions; they exclude catalyst timing,
fundamental eligibility, market regime, broker/spread checks and the 75-point
hurdle. Only B is permitted in the observed mixed regime. A "Yes" is therefore
not an order signal. Percentage-point differences use adjusted 20-session returns.

HON's A-price screen is excluded from the actionable list: the signal preceded
its 22 October earnings event, the mixed regime disallows A, and separation/
corporate-action effects require a consistent issuer and valuation basis.
No cheap-stock conclusion is drawn from its 9.78x trailing versus 22.82x
forward-labelled P/E.

All other names that fail both price setups are rejected at the first stage,
rather than being promoted on attractive narratives or P/E alone. Their
fundamentals and catalysts have not all been exhaustively reviewed. This is a
reproducible first selection pass, not a claim that no eligible company exists
outside the chosen universe.
